Some simple tips to save money when buying meat products...
In these tough times , I'm sure that everybody needs to save
some money, and we all know that the most expensive part of
grocery shopping is the meat aisle. Now we've all seen the
articles for saving money at the grocery store like, "only shop
on the outside aisles of the store and avoid the inner aisles
where all the junk food is", but there hasn't been anybody
say how to save money in the meat department. Maybe some
of these tips are no-brainers for some, but here they are just
in case. Now, on with the conventional and not so
conventional ways to save some dough in the meat aisle.
*Go shopping in the morning.
A lot of grocery stores sell the meat they had the previous day on sale. They would rather sell it for a cheaper price than
to throw it out altogether, so get to the store in the morning when they first open to grab the deals before someone else
does. Theres nothing wrong with certain meats that are a day old, just be suspicious and avoid anything thats too old.
* Buy in bulk.
Almost everything is cheaper when you buy a lot of it at once. If you see a package of lets say chicken breasts with three
pieces and a package with thirty, compare the "cost per unit" and you'll be surprised. You can take the money you save
and buy some foil or plastic wrap, portion out the package into smaller, air tight packages, and freeze them until you
need them. Better yet, even having one of those vacuum sealers are handy to have.

*Buy it "bone in".
Always remember that cutting your steaks for you is a service. So therefore every time a butcher cuts into a meat
product, it costs more. Buying meat with the bone still in means that the butcher didn't have to cut around all those bones
and sinew leaving you the deal and having to do some cutting yourself. If you think its only a couple of cents difference,
just compare bone-in chicken breasts to boneless/ skinless chicken breasts and check out the difference in "unit price".

*Buy whats in season.
Of course everything is cheaper in season because of the abundancy due to weather, mating seasons, hunting season,
etc. Take clams for example: you can always find frozen clams year round in the northeast, but fresh clams seem to pop
up in every restaurant and grocery store around May and June, and thats when they are the cheapest. Same goes for
cattle, seafood, game, etc.

*Be your own butcher.
If you have the time and are wanting to save some major fundage, cut your own meat. For example, you buy a package
of 3 NY strips for $12 at the grocery store, or you can buy a NY strip loin for  $70 at the wholesale club. Come on! The
Strip loin will take an average person about 5-10 minutes to cut and you'll probably get 15 steaks (depending on size) for
a fraction of what you pay at the grocery.

*Buy a meat grinder.
You always see the deals for stew meat or the weird cuts of beef that sell really cheap because nobody really knows what
to do with it. Buy a meat grinder and make your own ground beef, chicken, turkey or whatever. It will be fresh, taste way
better than the stuff at the grocery store and be very cheap!

So , all in all , always remember that the more someone has to cut into the meat, the more expensive it will be  and be
wary of old products- look for dates, package bulging, discoloration and leakage. And always remember that if it super
cheap, its cheap for a reason.
